The Meaning of Life
June 24, 2003 - 12:16 pm

Everyone is always asking what the meaning of life is. Whether they are pondering to themselves, looking up answers in Ancient texts, asking in prayers to their God. I don't even know if anyone has ever come up with a decent enough theory that could possibly be the true answer. Has Freud ever tackled it? Blake, Nostrodamus, Ghandi, Martin-Luther, the bigots who wrote the bible?

I have come to realise that it is a thing that most people have pondered at some point in their lives. Others take it further and dedicate themselves to a lifespan of research and philosophical musings.

Some people believe, in a scientific manner, that we are here purely because of the big bang and everything has occured through millions of years of life-development and the subsequent evolution of those life-forms. Meaning therefore that we, the human race, have evolved from plankton.

That level of evolution is something I can't bring myself to accept. It's too huge to comprehend, despite scientific "evidence". But that's my personal opinion. It obviously exists - I just don't think it can to that extent.

People sometimes believe in fate. One's destiny is therefore decided by God - for Fate is God is it not? Or perhaps fate is something else according to different people. But it is surely a higher level of enlightenment to believe in something that is effectively controlling your life. Or at least steering you in the "right" direction.

Taking into consideration the millions of varying belief-structures. I have come to the conclusion that

The meaning of life...

is what life means to you.

Bambridge Scholars, The Stoics, The Philosophers, The Mythilogical Students are maybe reading a little too much into it. Could it be any simpler?

Is it beyond the realms of possibility to imagine that there is a God - and that he or she or it, as an entity, is forcing us to the learn these many different lessons by means of many different religions and beliefs?

It is rare that someone dies having not had some kind of epiphany. Or several for that matter. We all believe in something - be it science or higher spiritual planes. And we all learn something from that.

You don't have to believe in God to learn what life is meant to teach you. Life isn't about believing in heaven. Why would you be on earth in the first place if that was the case? To believe in God - you'd just have to die to know that he existed. How easy is that?

I strongly believe that the meaning of life is what life means to you. I have always believed that. There is no complicated answer. There will never be an answer that everyone could understand. Because we are all different. And we all need to learn something that's different from the next person. Therefore the so-called Meaning of Life will always be different according to each individual. There then could not possibly be, one true answer. I hope all that made sense.
